In 1877 there was an old farmhouse at Horlaubenstrasse 2 called “Haus Lemm”.

In 1880 Mr. J. W. Lord purchased the house and converted it into an English school. The house was given the name “Haus Lord”.

In 1882 Lord died.

In 1884, his widow, together with Mrs. A. Langmesser-Crothers, set up the “British Home” for the sick.

Around 1903 it had 15 beds. Mrs. Loob, who had selflessly run the English home for eleven years, died in Birmingham in 1897. A society was then formed under the prorectorate of the Bishop of Canterbury. The aim of the society was to preserve the home.

In 1909 A. Baratelli converted and rebuilt the property into the “Pension Albula”. Hedwig Boecker and Ida Simonia ran the guesthouse until 1913. From then on, Rudolf Mayer-Leicht continued to run it as “Pension Villa Albula”.

From 1923, the Christian Social Health Insurance Association took over the house and turned it into the “Albula Sanatorium”.

In 1927 the sanatorium was moved to the building of today's youth hostel; the “Albula children's sanatorium” remained at this location.

In 1982 it became the children's ward of the "Alexanderhaus Allergy Clinic", and the house continued to belong to the Christian Social Health Insurance Association of Switzerland.

A renovation took place in 1989/1990 and the Alexanderhaus allergy clinic remained rented.

In 2015 the house was demolished and a new building with apartments was built.
