Pension Bergadler
History

The building was built in 1871 by the dentist F. Montigel from Chur.

From 1874 the house was run as a modest “Pension Bergadler”.

From 1878 to 1880 it was the “Frl. Otten Daughters’ Institute”.

From 1880 - 1885 it became the “English Pension Bergadler” with 20 beds, run by F. Pestalozzi and his English wife.

From 1885 Chr. Branger opened the restaurant and hotel “Bergadler” there. From 1889, Branger also ran the guesthouse in Sertig Dörfli.

In 1903 the property was rebuilt under the direction of Chr. Branger's heirs and enlarged to 50 beds and from November 1, 1903 it was run as the “Hotel National”.

In 1913 there was further expansion under J.P. Branger.

In 1934 it was named J.P. Branger became “Sporthotel National”.

From 1945 to 1958 the property was rented by the Zürcher Heilstätten Foundation. The head physician was initially Dr. H. Wehrlin, later Dr. Meloni.

In 1982 the property was purchased by Hotel National AG.

From 1982 to 2015, the “Hotel National” was owned by the Bachmann family, after which it was bought by the Davoser Bergbahnen.

Today the “Hotel National” has 60 rooms for up to 105 guests. The bright rooms are modernly furnished, most have a newly renovated balcony with a view of the Jakobshorn.
