The “Sanatorium Du Midi” was founded in 1901 by Dr. Max Bircher-Benner founded in Davos. It was one of the first sanatoriums to specialize in the treatment of nutritional disorders and chronic illnesses and was a forerunner of today's modern wellness and health centers.

The sanatorium quickly became a popular destination for wealthy patients from Europe and overseas who came to Davos to recover from the healing effects of the mountain air and climate.

During the First World War the sanatorium served as a military hospital, but after the war it continued its work as a sanatorium.

In the 1920s and 1930s, the sanatorium was an important place for the development of modern nutritional medicine and many groundbreaking research was carried out here.

During the Second World War the sanatorium was again used as a military hospital, but after the war it was reopened and continued its work.

However, the sanatorium began to decline in the 1950s, as modern medical developments and the increasing availability of antibiotics meant that fewer and fewer patients chose sanatorium treatment.

The “Sanatorium Du Midi” was finally closed in the 1980s and stood empty for a long time.
